This is the view of Mt Redoubt
from Airport Rd.
When Sigurjón Pétursson and
Thóra Hrönn Njálsdóttir line up
in the Iron Dog Trail Class
starting chute this morning,
thoughts of cancer and
bankruptcies will be erased by
the focus required for the world’
s toughest snowmachine race.
We care because....My loving sister and
her family recently relocated from sunny
Southern California to Alaska.
I'll post little updates from here on this
page.  And, we'll all keep our eye on that
volcano!
What's up in Alaska and why we care.......
2-6-09  -  Today's real temp is 15 degrees in Palmer,
feels like 6.

My nieces are in school and adjusting famously to their
new routine of getting bundled up before recess, yes,
they actually go outside!  Two little beach girls!  Must be a
sight.  They've even been to the local Reindeer Farm!  I
have the cutest picture of them making snow angles!
Deep snow angels!  They've even been sledding!

The school and teachers have met or exceeded my
sisters expectations so that  is good to know.  She even
can stay in the classroom for the day if she likes.

They drive to Anchorage for big shopping but they have
Fred Meyer & Walmart locally, among other local stores.

Check out the city's
website, we're going to learn so
much about Alaska!

Headlines:  Everyone is watching the Volcano, Mt.
Redoubt.  It hasn't erupted in 20 years.  It even made the
news here!  Hopefully it's just talk and it will stay dormant.

The Big Lake  2009 Tesoro Iron Dog race is getting
underway.  Good luck to the "cool couple".

And Bunny Boots seem to be the footwear of choice!  I
found
this posted on YouTube.

Stay  tuned for more from The Great White North.
Photo by Heidi.  Sunset from her deck.  Feb 9, 2009 - quite gorgeous.
